Former Ibrahim Saanie Daara has advised the Ghana Football Association to resist the temptation of making a hasty appointment as they search for a new Black Stars head coach.

His comments follow the dismissal of Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties after consecutive friendly defeats to Austria and Germany during the March international window.

Appiah shuts down Ghana return talk amid coaching vacancy

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Saani Daara stressed that the decision carries long-term implications and must be approached with strategic clarity rather than urgency alone. According to him, while the pressure to fill the vacancy quickly is understandable, the bigger picture should not be sacrificed.

“While we are looking for a coach now, we must also think about the future. We have a very young squad with the potential to do well. Most of the players are in their early 20s, so we need a coach who will not only focus on the World Cup but can also stay long term and stabilise the team for sustained success,” he stated.

His remarks come at a time when interest in the role has surged globally. The GFA, led by president Kurt Okraku, has already received an overwhelming number of applications, reportedly exceeding 600, as coaches from around the world express interest in leading Ghana’s senior national team.

Despite the cautionary tone, Okraku has indicated that the federation is working within a tight timeline, with plans to name a new head coach within the next two weeks.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars are set to reconvene in May as part of their preparations for upcoming international friendlies. They are scheduled to face Mexico on May 22 before taking on Wales on June 2, fixtures that will serve as important tests ahead of the next major tournament.

Ghana begin coaching hunt as Appiah emerges in shock interim frame

Ghana, gearing up for their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup, find themselves in a challenging Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama. With memories of their historic 2010 run still vivid, expectations remain high for another deep progression on the global stage.
