Hohoe United have taken the drastic step of confirming their intention to withdraw from the Ghana Premier League, following a high-stakes emergency meeting involving both board members and club management.

The decision, reached on April 1, signals a stunning collapse in what had initially been a landmark debut season for the club. Officials indicated that a formal notice will soon be submitted to the Ghana Football Association, officially outlining their stance.

Currently embroiled in a relegation battle, Hohoe United have accumulated 30 points from 27 outings, leaving them stranded in the bottom two with just seven matches left to salvage their top-flight status. However, club leadership insists their struggles go beyond performances on the pitch.

At the heart of their grievance is a three-match home ban handed down earlier in the season following a security-related incident at the Hohoe Sports Stadium. The club maintains that the timing of the punishment has dealt a severe blow to their survival hopes, especially considering that 20 of their 30 points were earned on home soil.

As a result of the sanction, Hohoe United are effectively stripped of their home advantage during the most critical phase of the campaign. Of their remaining fixtures, only one will be played at their actual home ground, while the rest will be staged away, even those in which they are officially listed as the home team.

Beyond disciplinary measures, the club has also voiced dissatisfaction with officiating standards and the broader management of their matches, factors they believe have compounded their precarious position.

Although the withdrawal is yet to be formally processed, such a move could trigger additional disciplinary consequences under league rules if carried through.

What was meant to be a historic journey in Ghana’s top division has now spiraled into turmoil, leaving Hohoe United’s immediate future hanging in the balance amid growing controversy.
