Fresh details have emerged regarding Ghana’s pursuit of Crystal Palace striker Eddie Nketiah, with his father revealing that the Sports Ministry made contact in an attempt to convince the forward to commit his international future to the Black Stars.
Speaking on Joy Prime TV, Edward Nketiah Snr disclosed that discussions have taken place as Ghana continues its long-standing interest in securing the services of the England-born attacker.
“I know there’s been approaches from the Sports Ministry and a few others, and that’s great,” he said.

The 26-year-old remains a player of interest for Ghana despite previously featuring for England at senior level. His lone appearance came in a friendly against Australia in 2023, meaning he still qualifies to switch allegiance under FIFA regulations because he has not played a competitive match for the Three Lions.
Nketiah’s father indicated that the final decision will ultimately rest with the player whenever the time comes:
“He sustained an injury this time around, so who knows. But when the decision comes, he has to make it, I’m sure he’s mature now to do it himself.”
The former Arsenal striker has enjoyed an impressive international youth career with England, becoming the country’s all-time leading scorer at Under-21 level with 16 goals. However, he has struggled to establish himself in the senior national team setup and has not been called up since his debut appearance.
Interest in bringing Nketiah into the Ghana fold has surfaced repeatedly over recent years, with both the player and Ghanaian football authorities reportedly open to discussions over a potential switch.
Any immediate progress, however, appears unlikely after the striker suffered a significant hamstring injury towards the end of the 2025/26 campaign with Crystal Palace, a setback that has temporarily shifted attention away from international matters.
Despite the injury, Ghana’s hopes of adding the prolific forward to the Black Stars remain alive, with the Sports Ministry continuing its efforts behind the scenes as the nation waits to see where Nketiah’s international future lies.
