Ghanaian teenage forward Prince Appiah Amoah has reiterated his belief that a future move to Swedish giants Djurgårdens IF remains firmly within reach, even after a previous transfer opportunity slipped away.
The 18-year-old attacker, currently developing his game with Latvian side FK Metta, is staying optimistic about eventually breaking into the Swedish top tier. His confidence stems from a promising trial stint with the Stockholm-based outfit last year, where he impressed the technical team but ultimately missed out on a contract due to administrative hurdles.
Amoah, who came through the ranks at MSK Zilina Africa FC, revealed that timing and foreign player restrictions in Swedish football proved decisive in blocking the deal, despite strong interest from the club.
Speaking in an interview with Kickgh.com, he reflected on how close he came to sealing the move:
“l went to Djurgårdens lF for trials last season and they had wanted to sign me due to what the technical team saw in me. But because the season was then almost ending, l had to return to Ghana and get myself prepared to go back and sign. Unfortunately, the Swedish football governing body brought up the issue of quotas for foreign players in the league, and that led to the collapse of the deal at the last minute.”
Now plying his trade in Latvia, Amoah believes his current platform offers him another pathway to Sweden. Encouragingly, communication lines with Djurgårdens IF remain open, with the club reportedly still tracking his development.
He shared his renewed determination and outlook:
“But now that l have had the opportunity to sign for FK Metta, my agent has told me that they have reached out to him for him to inform me that they will still be monitoring my progress in the league. So right now, all that l have to do is to stay focused and work hard, and by doing this, l could surely move to Sweden in the nearest future. My experience with them during my short-time stay at the 3Arena was indeed a memorable one, and so l am determined to work hard in order to return one day.”
So far, the young Ghanaian has made an early impression in preseason, scoring twice in four friendly matches, though he is yet to make his official league debut following the recent international break.
With his trajectory steadily rising, Amoah continues to position himself as one of Ghana’s emerging prospects, keeping both his European ambitions and potential national team future very much alive.
