Ghana midfielder Kwasi Sibo has capped off a remarkable year by reflecting on a 2025 that reshaped his career at both club and international level, describing it as one of the most fulfilling periods of his professional journey.

In a New Year’s Day post shared on his Instagram account and addressed to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the 28-year-old looked back on a whirlwind 12 months that saw him script history in Spain before announcing himself on the international stage with the Black Stars.

Sibo was at the heart of Real Oviedo’s fairytale campaign, playing a crucial role as the Asturian side clinched promotion back to La Liga in June 2025. The achievement ended a painful 24-year exile from Spain’s top flight and elevated Sibo’s profile across Europe, with his calm authority in midfield drawing widespread praise.

Those performances did not go unnoticed at home. Black Stars head coach Otto Addo handed Sibo his first national team call-up during Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, a move that marked a significant turning point in the midfielder’s career.

He went on to make his senior international debut in September 2025, featuring in a tense 1-0 win over Mali. Sibo delivered a mature and disciplined display, quickly establishing himself as a trusted option in midfield as Ghana powered through Group I to book their place at the World Cup.

Reflecting on the year’s milestones, Sibo wrote on Instagram:

“This year has been one of the best years of my career. Helping my club reach elite football after 24 years and making my debut for the national team are moments I will never forget.”

He also paid tribute to the backing he received from supporters throughout the qualifiers, adding: “The love and support you gave me during the World Cup qualifying games was amazing.”

With eyes now firmly fixed on the 2026 World Cup in North America, Sibo struck an optimistic tone about Ghana’s prospects on the global stage. He emphasized the squad’s commitment and belief as preparations gather momentum.

Looking ahead, he urged fans to stay close to the team: “We are preparing very hard and believe we can put Ghana on the global map next year.”
