After spending a year on the sidelines battling injury, Ghana winger Ernest Nuamah says he is eager to repay the faith shown in him as he gears up for his long-awaited return on football’s biggest stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Currently with the Black Stars squad in Cardiff ahead of their international friendly against Wales, the 22-year-old opened up about the emotional and physical challenges he faced during his lengthy rehabilitation process.
The talented attacker admitted that the setback tested his resilience, but his determination to return stronger never faded.
“It hasn’t been easy for me getting an injury. I’ve worked really hard to get to this point, and I can’t wait to give my all,” Nuamah said.

The former right-sided forward also paid tribute to Ghanaian supporters, whose encouragement and prayers he believes played a significant role in helping him navigate one of the toughest periods of his career:
“To Ghanaian fans, I just want to say thank you to everyone for your support and your prayers. It’s all your prayers that I’m here today.”
With the World Cup fast approaching, Nuamah’s focus has now shifted towards contributing to the team’s ambitions under newly appointed coach Carlos Queiroz. The winger highlighted the importance of embracing the manager’s philosophy and maintaining the collective commitment that has defined the squad’s preparations.
Despite acknowledging the magnitude of the challenge ahead, Nuamah remains optimistic that Ghana can make a meaningful impact in the tournament if the players continue to work together with discipline and purpose.
“The challenge ahead is not going to be easy, but with hard work and dedication, we are going to achieve something. With all your prayers, we can do something this time,” he added.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign in a demanding Group L that features Panama, England and Croatia, with their opening fixture scheduled against Panama on June 17.
