England manager Thomas Tuchel has spoken highly of Ghana ahead of their eagerly awaited Group L showdown at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the Black Stars as a formidable opponent packed with talent and athleticism.
The encounter, set to be one of the marquee fixtures of the group stage, comes after both nations opened their campaigns with victories. England announced their arrival with an entertaining 4-2 triumph over Croatia, while Ghana secured a hard-earned 1-0 win against Panama courtesy of a late strike from Caleb Yirenkyi.
Addressing the media before the contest in Boston, Tuchel stressed that Ghana remain one of the most respected sides in the group and highlighted several qualities that make them a difficult team to face.
“We are playing in one of the most difficult groups, and Ghana is a traditional top football country with outstanding players,” Tuchel said.
“Ghana play with a lot of physicality, quality and speed. They don’t mind if they don’t have the ball.”
The German tactician believes the Black Stars possess the ability to trouble any side on the international stage, pointing to their pace, strength, and tactical discipline as key attributes.

However, while praising Ghana, Tuchel made it clear that England will approach the match with maximum determination as they seek to take control of Group L.
“It’s bad news for Ghana because we will be very motivated,” he added.
With qualification for the knockout rounds potentially at stake, the clash is expected to draw worldwide attention and could have a major impact on the complexion of the group.
Both teams enter the fixture level on three points after winning their opening matches. England currently occupy first place due to a superior goal difference, while Ghana sit second and remain firmly in contention to advance.
A victory for either side would provide a significant boost in the race for the round of 16 and further cement their status as favourites to emerge from what has already proven to be one of the tournament’s most competitive groups.
