FC Metz’s rising centre-back Terry Yegbe has his sights locked firmly on the biggest stage in world football, declaring his ambition to break into Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
The 24-year-old only arrived in Ligue 1 this summer after swapping Swedish side IF Elfsborg for Metz, yet he has already played his way into early national-team conversations. Yegbe received his first-ever Black Stars invitation in November 2024, a late call-up for the final round of AFCON qualifiers against Angola and Niger, but is still waiting to make his senior debut.

Now a consistent figure in Metz’s back line with eight Ligue 1 appearances under his belt, the Akatsi-born defender believes a spot at next year’s World Cup is within reach if he continues on his current trajectory.
“My target is to help Metz stay in Ligue 1 and be in the national team. Hopefully, I’ll be part of the next call-up or maybe even the World Cup squad. I just need to keep pushing,” he told Flashscore.
Yegbe’s climb has been steady and quietly impressive. After coming through WAFA and later Vision FC, he left Ghana in 2022 for a loan spell with Finnish outfit SJK Seinajoki. His composure, strength, and aerial dominance soon attracted interest from Sweden, where he joined IF Elfsborg and made 40 appearances, scoring four goals and establishing a reputation as a reliable ball-playing defender.
Those performances paved the way for his move to France, signing a long-term deal that keeps him at Metz until 2029. The step-up has not fazed him, and with the World Cup looming, he’s pushing to turn national-team potential into something far more concrete.
As Ghana prepares for its return to the global stage next year, Yegbe is positioning himself as one of the emerging contenders eager to force his way into Otto Addo’s plans.
