Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has launched a scathing assessment of the Black Stars following their underwhelming 1-1 stalemate against Chad in Thursday’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash.

The Black Stars, who were expected to cruise past the Central African side, looked far from convincing at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno in N’Djamena. Jordan Ayew handed Ghana a first-half lead, but Chad’s Ecua Celestin struck late to stun the visitors and deny them all three points.

Sannie Daara, now serving as a Senior Media Officer at the Confederation of African Football (CAF), did not hold back his frustration over the team’s showing, bluntly questioning the quality and selection of several players currently donning the national colours.

“I wasn’t happy with what I saw from the Black Stars yesterday against Chad. I still maintain that a lot of the Black Stars players don’t deserve to be in the team,” Daara said on Sporty FM.

“Ideally, a Black Stars midfield shouldn’t have some of the players currently there. We used to have Essien and others in that position.”

Despite the disappointing result, Ghana remain at the top of Group I with 16 points after seven rounds of fixtures. However, the performance has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike about the team’s readiness for next year’s global showpiece.

Attention now shifts to a pivotal home tie against Mali on Monday, September 8, at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Chris Hughton’s side will be under pressure to deliver a statement win. Kick-off is scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
