Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu believes his current run of consistent game time at AS Monaco is simply the result of months of deliberate effort and patience.
The centre-back endured a stop–start campaign last season, featuring only 24 times in all competitions as he spent most of the year behind other defensive options. His final league start of the 2024/25 campaign came as far back as February, highlighting how distant a regular role once seemed.
Fast-forward to this term, and the 26-year-old has re-established himself as a key figure in Monaco’s back line. Salisu has made the starting XI in each of the club’s last seven matches, a turnaround he attributes to his own persistence rather than any stroke of luck.

“I gave myself the chance to earn this spot by working hard, and that’s why I’m not surprised to be playing regularly now. In training, I’m improving and making sure to stay as disciplined as possible, and I’ve been doing that since the restart,” he reflected to the press.
His resurgence has been evident in both domestic and continental action. Salisu has featured six times in Ligue 1 this season, finding the net once, and has added three Champions League appearances to his tally.
Since moving to the Principality in the summer of 2023 on a five-year contract, the former Real Valladolid defender has now amassed 46 appearances for Monaco, contributing four goals and an assist.
