Ghanaian centre-back Mohammed Salisu delivered another commanding display as AS Monaco triumphed 5–3 over FC Nantes in a breathtaking Ligue 1 contest at the Stade de la Beaujoire on Wednesday night.

In a match that had everything, goals, intensity, and drama, Salisu stood out for his composure and authority in Monaco’s backline. The former Southampton defender was a defensive rock, completing 44 of 49 passes with an impressive 90% accuracy, while making 10 vital clearances that kept the home side from mounting a full comeback.

The Ghanaian also showed excellent timing in his tackles, winning two duels cleanly and conceding just one foul. His calm presence and communication at the back have quickly made him an indispensable part of Sébastien Pocognoli’s revitalized Monaco side, who are now unbeaten in four matches under the Belgian tactician.

Monaco’s attack was in full flow as Mamadou Coulibaly, Folarin Balogun, Maghnes Akliouche, and Aleksandr Golovin, who netted twice, powered the visitors to victory. Nantes, meanwhile, refused to go quietly, with Herba Guirassy bagging a brace and Mostafa Mohamed adding a late strike to keep the crowd on edge until the final whistle.

The result lifts Monaco to second place in the Ligue 1 standings, just a single point adrift of Paris Saint-Germain.

Salisu’s renaissance has been one of the club’s biggest positives this season. After an injury-hit spell in England, the 25-year-old has re-emerged as one of Ligue 1’s most dependable defenders, featuring in seven matches across all competitions and even finding the net once.

His growing confidence and maturity at the heart of defence underline Monaco’s ambitions, and Ghana fans will be encouraged to see their man returning to his very best form.
