After a prolonged wait marked by administrative setbacks, Patric Pfeiffer has finally secured his maiden call-up to the Ghana national team, bringing an end to nearly two years of uncertainty following his decision to switch international allegiance.
The 26-year-old central defender, contracted to FC Augsburg and currently featuring for SV Darmstadt 98, has been included in the Black Stars squad by head coach Otto Addo ahead of upcoming high-profile friendlies against Austria and Germany.
For Pfeiffer, the call-up carries added significance, as he could make his senior international debut against his country of birth when Ghana face Germany in Stuttgart on March 30. The towering defender, standing at 1.96 metres, previously represented Germany at youth level, featuring for both the U-18 and U-19 sides before committing his future to Ghana.
Although he declared his intention to play for the Black Stars as far back as 2022, bureaucratic complications delayed the process. It was not until 2024 that he obtained a Ghanaian passport, effectively clearing the final hurdle that had kept him sidelined from selection.
Now eligible and finally included, Pfeiffer arrives with the opportunity to stake a claim in Ghanaβs defensive setup as the team begins shaping its squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Otto Addo urged to prioritize form over loyalty in Black Stars’ World Cup squad
Ghana will open their international window with a clash against Austria in Vienna on March 27, before travelling to Stuttgart to take on Germany three days later.
