Newcastle United have reportedly initiated contact with RB Salzburg to gather information on promising Ghanaian attacker Edmund Baidoo, as they map out recruitment plans for the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to Africafoot, the Magpies are monitoring the 20-year-old closely following an encouraging campaign in Austria. Baidoo has steadily grown in influence this season, registering seven goals and one assist across 34 appearances in all competitions, a return that has not gone unnoticed beyond the Austrian Bundesliga.
It is understood that Newcastle’s approach at this stage has been exploratory rather than formal, with club officials seeking clarity on the forward’s situation and potential availability.
Early lines of communication have reportedly been opened with Salzburg as the Premier League side weigh up attacking reinforcements ahead of next term.
Baidoo, who made the switch to Salzburg in 2024, remains tied to the Austrian champions until June 2029. His long-term contract places the club in a strong negotiating position, especially amid growing interest from elsewhere in Europe. German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund are also believed to be tracking the Ghanaian youngster.
Salzburg are said to have placed a valuation in the region of €10 million on the striker. Any concrete move would require Newcastle to reach an agreement not only with the Austrian outfit but also with Baidoo’s representatives over personal terms.
For now, the forward’s immediate focus remains on closing out the campaign on a positive note in Austria. However, with interest building and the summer window approaching, a potential move cannot be discounted.
