Kamaldeen Sulemana admits even he’s been caught off guard by how quickly he’s adapted to life at Atalanta. The Ghanaian winger, recently crowned the club’s Goal of the Month winner, has wasted no time making his mark in Serie A after a challenging spell in England.
The 23-year-old joined the Bergamo-based side during the summer transfer window from relegated Premier League outfit Southampton and has since flourished under Ivan Jurić. In just seven league appearances, Sulemana has scored twice and added another memorable strike for Ghana during the October international break.

Though widely recognized for his flair and raw pace, Sulemana’s time in England was marred by inconsistency and injuries. That’s why his immediate impact in Italy has come as something of a pleasant surprise, even to him.
“I didn’t think I’d start so well. I wanted to show everyone my worth, especially Atalanta. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to play for this fantastic club. I really like the city of Bergamo. I like the team, I breathe positivity every day. But now I’m no longer a surprise for my opponents, so I’ll have to study new surprises!” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
Now a crucial figure in Jurić’s attacking setup, the former Stade Rennais forward continues to grow in confidence with each game.
Fresh from international duty, Sulemana was handed a starting role as Atalanta were held to a goalless draw by Lazio on Sunday, October 19, a match that further underlined his growing importance to the 2023 Europa League champions.
