The Director of Marketing at the Ghana Football Association, Jamil Maraby, has delivered a bold prediction about the future of the national team, insisting that Ghana national football team are on course to clinch the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2027.
Ghana’s rich football pedigree includes four continental triumphs, yet the last of those successes dates back to 1982. That prolonged drought has become a lingering source of frustration for fans, but Maraby believes the current generation is primed to restore the nation’s dominance.
“I am very confident and feel Ghana will win the next AFCON,” he declared in an interview with Patrick Akoto on the GFA Podcast.
According to Maraby, the foundation for success lies in continuity within the squad. A large portion of the team has stayed together over several years, allowing players to build chemistry while gaining exposure at the highest levels of the game.
“About 60–70 percent of the squad remains intact. Many have played in two World Cups, and some have featured in three AFCON tournaments. By 2027, they will be at their peak – around 27 to 28 years. It’s a natural cycle.”

He also contextualized Ghana’s ambitions within the shifting dynamics of African football. Recent champions have enjoyed their moment, but Maraby is convinced a transition is underway, one that could favor the Black Stars.
“Ivory Coast had their chance and took it. Senegal are at the top now, but cycles change, and Ghana will rise again.”
His optimism arrives against the backdrop of a difficult spell for Ghana on the continental stage. Recent AFCON campaigns have been underwhelming, including early eliminations, a winless run, and even failure to qualify for the 2025 edition, an unprecedented low for the four-time champions.
Despite these setbacks, Maraby sees encouraging signs beneath the surface. The team has managed to secure back-to-back qualifications for the FIFA World Cup, marking a fifth appearance overall, an achievement he views as proof of steady progress rather than decline.

For Maraby, the trajectory is clear: a blend of experience, squad stability, and long-term planning could culminate in a defining moment for Ghanaian football. If his prediction holds, 2027 may finally mark the end of a 45-year wait for continental supremacy.
