Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has attributed his side’s loss to Hearts of Oak to poor finishing, insisting his team created enough opportunities to avoid defeat.
The two Ghanaian giants faced off on Sunday at the iconic Accra Sports Stadium in their final Round 34 encounter of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Despite Medeama showing flashes of quality throughout the contest, Hearts of Oak emerged dominant in a thrilling six-goal affair, cruising to a 4-2 victory inspired by a brilliant brace from Mawuli Wayo.
Tanko, however, rejected suggestions that the Phobians outplayed his side, maintaining that the game was evenly balanced and could easily have swung in Medeama’s favour had his players been more clinical in front of goal.
“I think it was 50-50. After the first goal, we came back strongly and had all the chances. And then in the second half, the early goal kicked us behind, but still we kept on fighting to the last. They won 4-2, and I congratulate them,” Ibrahim Tanko said.

The former Ghana international also revealed that Medeama will conduct a comprehensive review of their campaign as preparations begin for next season’s domestic and continental assignments:
“After the season, we have to sit down and analyse the whole season and then look at the position we think we need to help us in Africa and the league next season. We are going to do the work.”
Although disappointed so in Accra, Medeama still have plenty to celebrate after clinching the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title.
