Reflecting on the strike, Sadiq revealed that belief and intent drove him the moment he stepped onto the pitch.
“What I remember about that goal is that, I was on the bench and when I came in, in my mind I was coming on to score so when I came I was like I have to score to help the team and make it a bit easier to go through,” he said as he reflected the moment.
He explained how tactical instructions and instinct combined to create the unforgettable moment.
“So after the first half in the game, we were told to counter-press and I had that in my head and as soon as I saw Troy (Parrot) lose the ball, I was like let me counter-press and when I got the ball, I had to think so when the guy slide I just put the ball through his leg and I was like let me take my chance and shoot the ball. I was surprise. First of all when I shot the ball I thought it was going out and the ball went down and when it went into the top corner, I was like wow,” Sadiq added.
Despite modest numbers in the Eredivisie this season, two goals from 13 league appearances, Sadiq’s moment of magic has underlined his growing influence and ability to change games in an instant. The award not only celebrates a spectacular finish but also signals the rising confidence of the Ghanaian forward as he continues to carve out his place in Dutch football.
