Gillingham FC have bolstered their defensive options by signing 19-year-old Ghanaian centre-back Travis Akomeah on a short-term loan deal, according to the official announcement.

The English League Two side have acquired the promising youngster from Championship club Watford, with the agreement set to run until January 2026.

Akomeah, an English-Ghanaian defender, returned to Watford earlier this year after a stint with Chelsea, and the move to Gillingham offers him an ideal platform to gain first-team experience. The teenager could feature for the Gills as early as this weekend, potentially marking his league debut.

During his time at Chelsea, Akomeah made two appearances in last season’s Vertu Trophy, playing a full match against Bromley and coming off the bench against Charlton in October 2024. Known for his composure and tactical awareness at the back, the young defender will don the number 15 jersey at Gillingham.

The loan represents a pivotal step in Akomeah’s development, giving him the chance to sharpen his skills in competitive league action and make a strong impression in English football’s lower tiers.
