Eggimann hails Ambrosius return as “ideal solution” to Karlsruher SC defensive crisis

Karlsruher SC have acted swiftly to address their growing defensive concerns, with sporting director Mario Eggimann throwing his full weight behind the return of Ghana international Stephan Ambrosius.

Plagued by injuries and a lack of stability at the heart of defence, the 2. Bundesliga outfit have opted for a familiar and trusted option, securing Ambrosius on loan from Swiss Super League side FC St. Gallen until the end of the season. The agreement also includes an option to make the move permanent.

For Eggimann, the decision was both practical and strategic. The former Swiss international was unequivocal in his assessment of the defender, branding Ambrosius “a real fighter” and “an ideal solution in the current situation,” underlining the club’s belief that the 27-year-old is perfectly suited to plug the current gaps.

Stephan Ambrosius returns with purpose as Karlsruher seek defensive lift

Ambrosius’ return to the BBBank Wildpark marks his second spell with Karlsruher SC, having already worn the club’s colours during the 2022–23 campaign. His prior experience within the squad and understanding of the club’s expectations were key factors in accelerating the deal.

Capped at senior international level by Ghana, the robust centre-back is expected to bring renewed authority, composure and leadership to a back line that has lacked consistency for much of the season.

Crucially, Ambrosius is available for immediate selection and is poised to be involved in Karlsruher SC’s next league outing, an away trip against Preußen on Saturday, where the club will hope his presence delivers an instant defensive lift.
