Black Stars deputy coach Desmond Offei has been handed the reins of Ghana’s U23 national team, the Black Meteors, as the country intensifies its push for a long-awaited return to the Olympic Games.
The Belgian-trained tactician, who previously guided the Black Satellites (U20s), now assumes full command of the Meteors’ technical bench. Offei’s résumé with the junior sides is impressive, he masterminded Ghana’s gold-medal triumph at the 2023 African Games and steered the Satellites back to the Africa Youth Championship after a four-year hiatus, booking a slot at the 2024 tournament in Egypt.
Offei will be supported by an experienced backroom unit. Former Ghana striker Yaw Preko, who has cut his teeth coaching the U15s and U17s, steps in as his assistant. Ex-Asante Kotoko and Medeama SC goalkeeper Muntari Tagoe will tutor the shot-stoppers, while Aduana FC’s Atta Yeboah takes up duties as team manager.
