Former England international Jermain Defoe has heaped glowing praise on Antoine Semenyo after the Ghana forward hit the ground running following his move to Manchester City.
Semenyo’s City career continues to gather serious momentum. After announcing himself with a goal on debut against Exeter City and following it up with a strike against Newcastle United, the 26-year-old registered his first Premier League goal for the champions in Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Etihad Stadium.
City wasted no time asserting control, with Egyptian attacker Omar Marmoush opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Semenyo then capped a dominant first-half display by doubling the advantage just before the interval, finding the net in the 45th minute to put the result beyond doubt.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Defoe singled out Semenyo’s impact and all-round quality, underlining why the forward has quickly become a key attacking weapon for Pep Guardiola’s side.
“We have seen him do that a lot of times, but to do that, it was special. He scores goals and assists as well. He is just unplayable. He is dynamic,” the former Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland striker said.
Since completing his switch from AFC Bournemouth, Semenyo has now racked up three goals in four appearances across all competitions, an impressive return that highlights his rapid adaptation to City’s system and intensity.
With confidence sky-high, the Ghana international will be looking to extend his purple patch when Manchester City welcome Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League this midweek, before turning attention back to domestic duties with a tough Premier League trip to Tottenham Hotspur looming.
