The Black Stars will not begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying preparations in Accra as initially planned. Instead, the team will regroup directly in Morocco before facing the Central African Republic in a decisive Matchday 9 encounter.
The qualifier is set for Wednesday, October 8, at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknes. According to the Ghana Football Association’s Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, the technical team and management agreed that it would be logistically smarter to gather in Morocco rather than Accra.
“Various discussions have been held, and I can confirm that there is a proposal that the players will report to Morocco instead of Accra because we don’t have enough time to prepare for the game,” Asante Twum explained in an interview with Woezor TV’s Arena.
The GFA spokesperson stressed that most players are still committed to club duties over the weekend and will have little recovery time if they were to fly into Accra first.
“These players will play for their respective clubs this weekend, so we are expecting that the players will report to camp on Sunday and then the last badge of players are expected on Monday since the game is on a Wednesday so if they report to Accra, they will have to be flown to Morocco either on Monday or Tuesday which will be a lot of work because the players will not have enough time and space to rest in between the period and some of the players will be coming from a far distance so the last meeting we had, we proposed that we will meet in Morocco instead of meeting in Accra before flying to Morocco and that what is being firmed up,” he added.
Asante Twum also disclosed that head coach Otto Addo has already finalized and defended his squad list, which will be made public later this week.
After locking horns with the Central African Republic, Ghana will head back to Accra to complete their qualification campaign against the Comoros on Sunday, October 12, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Black Stars currently lead Group I with 19 points and know that victory over CAR will book them a ticket to their fifth FIFA World Cup finals.
