Ghana international Alidu Seidu has opened up on the rollercoaster of emotions he experienced after finally stepping back onto the pitch following the most difficult spell of his young career.

The 25-year-old defender endured a grueling 250-day absence after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament, a setback that not only ruled him out of 24 matches for French Ligue 1 side Rennes but also denied him the chance to feature for the Black Stars for nearly a year.

His long road to recovery reached its destination when he was handed minutes against Lorient, even though Rennes were humbled 4-0. For Seidu, however, the scoreline was secondary to the personal triumph of being back.

“The moment I stepped on the pitch, I was so happy. The ACL was my biggest and longest injury. Coming back was crazy and weird at the same time, but I was just waiting for this day,” he told Flashscore.com.

Since then, the versatile defender has wasted no time finding his rhythm. He featured against Lyon before turning in a standout display against Nantes, where he not only showcased his trademark grit but also chipped in with an assist to earn man-of-the-match honours.

The performance was a reminder of the player Rennes fans had been missing, an energetic, combative presence capable of influencing games at both ends of the pitch.

Looking ahead, Seidu has his eyes firmly set on bigger targets with both club and country.

“My goal is to get a lot of minutes, to give everything, so Rennes can qualify for Europe. I’m convinced this season we can do good things,” he added.

His resurgence could not have come at a better moment for Ghana, with the Black Stars gearing up for crucial 2026 World Cup qualifying clashes against the Central African Republic and Comoros.
