Gillingham FC have moved swiftly to bolster their defensive ranks, sealing the return of London-born centre-back Travis Akomeah on loan from Championship outfit Watford until the conclusion of the 2025–26 season.

The League Two side confirmed the deal on Thursday, marking a swift reunion with the 20-year-old, who previously spent the opening half of the campaign at Priestfield Stadium. Having already acclimatised to life with the Gills, Akomeah now returns with the brief of seeing out the remainder of the season in Kent.

A product of Chelsea’s famed academy before his switch to Watford, Akomeah made a solid impression during his initial loan stint, featuring eight times in all competitions. His first league start came on December 6 in an away fixture against Colchester United, while his most recent outing was the December 20 clash with Fleetwood at Highbury.

An official confirmation over the loan deal reads:

“Travis Akomeah has rejoined the Gills on loan from Watford until the end of the season. The centre-back, 20, played eight times for the Gills earlier in the campaign during his first loan spell, making his first league start on December 6 away to Colchester United.”

“His last appearance came against Fleetwood at Highbury on December 20. He will be available for selection for this Saturday’s league game at Harrogate.”

Akomeah’s return hands Gillingham a familiar and youthful presence at the back as they push through the decisive months of the campaign. The defender has already logged eight appearances for the club this season and is expected to slot straight back into contention.

On the international front, Akomeah has represented England at U-17 and U-18 levels, but remains eligible to don the colours of Ghana in the future through his heritage, an option that continues to attract attention as his development progresses.
