FC Nordsjaelland football director Alexander Riget believes Ghana midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has reached the stage of his development where a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues could become a reality during the current transfer window.
Yirenkyi has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the past year, establishing himself as one of the standout performers in the Danish Superliga while also enhancing his growing reputation on the international stage with the Black Stars.
The talented midfielder made 30 league appearances for FC Nordsjaelland during the 2025/26 campaign, registering two goals and six assists as he became a key figure in the club’s midfield.
His impressive club form carried into the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he emerged as one of Ghana’s brightest performers. The 20-year-old scored the decisive goal in the Black Stars’ opening group-stage victory over Panama before featuring prominently against England, Croatia and Colombia.

Despite acknowledging that the demanding schedule has taken its toll on the youngster, Riget believes the time is right for Yirenkyi to take the next step in his career.
Speaking on the Transferguru podcast, the FC Nordsjaelland executive revealed that the club are prepared for the possibility of losing one of their prized assets this summer.
“Caleb is about to have played a lot of games, and we have made some plans with him, so it could well be a summer sale because he has established himself as one of the best midfielders in the Super League, although I would say that he has looked a little tired towards the end,” he said.
Riget also dismissed the idea that Yirenkyi would need to use a smaller European league as a stepping stone before joining one of the continent’s biggest competitions, insisting the Ghanaian possesses the quality and maturity to make an immediate impact at a higher level.
“He is extremely mature. We have agreed that he does not need an intermediate step in a Dutch sub-top club or the bottom of the Bundesliga. He is ready, we think, to move directly to a top-five league and also a bit higher,” Riget added.

Yirenkyi’s rapid development has not gone unnoticed, with several leading European clubs believed to be tracking his progress. Spanish giants Real Madrid, Premier League sides Arsenal and Brighton, as well as Portuguese heavyweights FC Porto, have all been linked with the highly rated Ghana international ahead of what could be a defining summer in his career.
