Ghanaian centre-back Rockson Yeboah has been reinstated for selection after Sweden’s football authorities rescinded the late red card he received during IFK Göteborg’s recent encounter with BK Häcken.

The 21-year-old was dismissed in the closing stages of the match at Gamla Ullevi, with referee Joakim Sars deeming his challenge on Sanders Ngabo to constitute serious foul play. The decision initially left Göteborg facing the prospect of being without one of their key defensive figures.

However, the club moved swiftly to challenge the call, submitting video evidence to the Swedish FA’s disciplinary panel. After reassessing the incident, the committee concluded that the original judgment had been based on a misreading of the action.

According to their findings, the referee had believed Yeboah made dangerous contact using the sole of his foot. Footage later revealed that the contact occurred with his knee instead, fundamentally altering the interpretation of the challenge.

“The referee was mistaken about the factual circumstances. Against this background, the decision was clearly incorrect and the disciplinary consequences should be removed,” the statement read.

With the ruling overturned, Yeboah’s suspension has been nullified, clearing him to feature in Göteborg’s upcoming league fixture against Halmstads.

The verdict is a significant relief for both player and club, as Yeboah has grown into a dependable presence at the heart of Göteborg’s defence this season. Sporting director Hannes Stiller expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing the importance of correcting clear errors.

“It is natural that you should not be punished for something that is wrong,” he said.

Now free to return to action, Yeboah will be focused on putting the controversy behind him and continuing his steady progress in Swedish football.
