CAF Second Vice-President and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, has applauded CAF boss Dr. Patrice Motsepe for prioritising safety and security in African football.

Okraku was speaking to the press in Accra at the launch of the CAF Safe Stadium Initiative workshop, a three-day program designed to upgrade knowledge and standards around stadium safety. He credited Motsepe for making security a central part of his leadership agenda.

“Since our President [Patrice Motsepe] took office, one of his foremost promises has been to deliver football in a very, very safe environment for all consumers of our sport,” Okraku stressed.

He added that CAF’s collaborative approach with Member Associations is critical: “It is always important for CAF, working closely with our Member Associations, to share knowledge that will help ensure lives and property are not only safe but protected at all CAF-organised events.”

The workshop has drawn safety and security officers from top-flight clubs, regional police units, and GFA officials. Their task is to sharpen strategies that will make stadiums more secure and restore fans’ trust in attending games.

Okraku’s remarks echo CAF’s wider determination to prevent a repeat of tragedies that have marred African football in the past. By pushing for safer venues, CAF aims to reassure fans, players, and officials that football can be enjoyed without fear.
