Ghana’s attack has received a timely boost after in-form striker Brandon Thomas-Asante was drafted into the Black Stars squad for the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against the Central African Republic and the Comoros.
The Coventry City forward was summoned as a late replacement for Inaki Williams, who suffered an injury setback during Athletic Club’s 2-1 La Liga victory over Real Mallorca at the weekend. The Ghanaian-Spanish forward could not complete the full match, prompting medical staff to rule him out of the upcoming international duty.
Thomas-Asante’s recall comes on the back of an outstanding run of form in the English Championship. The 25-year-old stole the headlines last Saturday with a brilliant two-goal performance and an assist as Coventry demolished Sheffield Wednesday 5-0 away from home, a result that sent the Sky Blues to the summit of the table.

The dynamic forward has been one of the standout performers in England’s second tier this season, boasting eight goal contributions (five goals and three assists) in just nine appearances. His electric form has reignited calls for his inclusion in the national setup, and coach Otto Addo has responded decisively.
Thomas-Asante, who last featured for Ghana several months ago, has already linked up with the Black Stars camp in Meknes, Morocco, where preparations are underway for the decisive qualifying double-header. Training sessions are expected to intensify later today as Ghana sharpen their strategy for the fixtures ahead.
Currently, leading Group I with 19 points, the four-time African champions are within touching distance of another World Cup appearance. They require just four points from their remaining two matches to book a ticket to the global showpiece.
All smiles on arrival 😀
