Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has played down swirling speculation about his future at the club following another frustrating outing in the Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors were held to a disappointing draw by relegation-battling Berekum Chelsea on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium, a result that left them six points behind table-toppers Medeama after 18 rounds of fixtures. The dropped points only fuelled growing chatter in the local media that Kotoko’s hierarchy could be considering a change in the dugout.
Those rumours were already gathering pace even before kick-off, with reports claiming that the club’s management was internally reviewing Zito’s position amid a run of inconsistent results.
Addressing the issue head-on after the final whistle, the veteran tactician admitted he was well aware of the talk, but made it clear he was not losing sleep over it.
“I can’t speak about tomorrow because, as you’ve mentioned, there are reports that management wants me out. These recent results have made the situation more difficult, so if that is truly their intention, then the opportunity has presented itself now,” he said.

However, Zito was equally firm in pointing out that everything being said so far remains speculation, insisting that no one from the club has approached him about his job.
“I am free to go to Nsawam today. Throughout my coaching career, I have never been sacked, and I have neither seen nor heard anything from management suggesting they intend to appoint a new coach. Until the people who brought me here officially ask me to leave, I am not concerned about what is being said or reported on social media,” Zito added.

For now, the former Ghana U-20 coach remains focused on the task ahead as Kotoko look to reignite their title push.
The Kumasi-based giants will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Bibiani to face GoldStars at DUN’s Park in a crucial Matchday 19 encounter, with Zito hoping a positive result can quiet the noise and steer his side back on track.
