Ghanaian defender Wahab Ackwei has etched his name into USL history, marking a century of appearances in America’s second-tier league.
The 28-year-old, now with El Paso Locomotive, hit the 100-game milestone over the weekend after featuring in his side’s thrilling 2-2 draw against Monterrey Bay FC. It was his 15th outing of the 2025 campaign.
Since arriving in the United States back in 2018 to join the New York Red Bulls setup, where he turned out for their reserve side, Ackwei’s journey has been one of persistence and growth. His path has seen him don the colors of Richmond Kickers, Loudoun United, Rio Grande Valley FC Toros, Colorado Springs Switchbacks, and now El Paso.

Over his 100 USL matches, the former Ghana youth international has chipped in with seven goals and five assists, an impressive tally for a center-back.
El Paso Locomotive saluted the feat on their social media platforms: “Congratulations to Wahab Ackwei on making his 100th USL regular season appearance Saturday night!”
Ackwei’s proudest moment so far came in 2024, when he lifted the USL Cup with Colorado Springs Switchbacks. In total, across all U.S. competitions and divisions, he has racked up 147 appearances.
