CF Montréal striker Prince Osei Owusu has set his sights on earning a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the opportunity to represent the Black Stars on football’s biggest stage as the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.

The 29-year-old forward, who captains the Major League Soccer side, is steadily building his case for a bigger role with the national team after making his senior debut for Ghana during the Kirin Cup in November.

Owusu is widely expected to be part of Otto Addo’s plans for the upcoming international friendlies against Germany and Austria later this month. The matches are seen as an important window for the Black Stars coaching staff to assess players ahead of final preparations for the 2026 World Cup.

For Owusu, wearing the Ghana shirt carries deep personal significance beyond footballing ambition.

“It will be a dream come true for me and for every player, you know, if you can represent your country, your roots,” he was quoted by GhanaSoccernet.

The striker admitted his first appearance for Ghana remains a moment he still cherishes, highlighting the emotional connection he feels to the country and his family heritage:

“It was crazy when I did my debut last season. This year, I was in Ghana too, from December to New Year. Celebrating the New Year in Ghana with my family was a very special moment.”

Owusu heads into the international window in strong form at club level. He ended last season as CF Montréal’s leading scorer with 13 goals in Major League Soccer and has already opened his account for the new campaign after finding the net in Sunday’s victory over the New York Red Bulls.

Maintaining that scoring momentum, he believes, could strengthen his chances of securing a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad.

“I will just keep performing well, help the team, and hopefully earn the honour of a call-up,” Owusu said.

Before pledging his international future to Ghana, Owusu had previously represented Germany at youth level. However, he eventually decided to embrace his Ghanaian heritage and commit to the Black Stars.

“It was a longer thought for me, but representing my roots was clear. Players should play for the roots of their family. For me, it was Ghana, and it makes my family proud. It was an easy decision,” he concluded.
