Ghana forward Prince Owusu has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Major League Soccer side CF Montréal, underlining his growing importance to the Canadian club.

The 28-year-old striker has agreed to fresh terms that will see him remain in Montréal until the end of the 2028 season, with the club holding options to extend the contract through the 2029 and 2030 campaigns.

Owusu only arrived at CF Montréal earlier this year after crossing the divide from domestic rivals Toronto FC, but he wasted little time stamping his authority. His debut season proved outstanding, as he emerged as one of the league’s most influential attackers and was crowned the club’s Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the 2025 season.

In front of goal, the German-born striker was relentless. He registered 17 goals in all competitions, a return that placed him among an elite group, becoming just the fifth player in CF Montréal’s history to score at least 15 goals in a single season.

“Montréal has become a special place for me,” said the Ghanaian forward. “Extending my contract with CF Montréal is a source of pride, and I’m grateful to the club’s Sporting staff for its trust. I’m eager to continue this journey with my teammates and look forward to seeing our supporters again soon at Stade Saputo.”

Owusu’s club form also opened the door to the international stage. His MLS exploits earned him a maiden call-up to the Black Stars in November, where he made his senior debut during the Kirin Cup clash against Japan. He went on to feature again for Ghana in the encounter with South Korea, further cementing his growing role in the national setup.

With the 2026 World Cup set to be hosted in North America, Owusu will be keen to maintain his scoring touch in Montréal as he pushes for a regular spot in Otto Addo’s Ghana squad.

CF Montréal’s leadership has been equally vocal in its praise of the forward, highlighting both his performances and his influence within the dressing room.

“Prince’s contract extension represents an acknowledgement of the consistency that he has brought to the Club since his arrival,” said CF Montreal Managing Director, Recruitment and Sporting Methodology Luca Saputo.

“His on-field achievements routinely reflect the daily leadership he demonstrates to his teammates. We’re very pleased that he has committed to our project.”

Born in Germany, Owusu previously represented European sides at youth international level before opting to switch allegiance to Ghana, a decision that now appears perfectly timed as his career continues to gather momentum on both club and international fronts.
