Ghanaian striker Prince-Osei Owusu made his mark in the 2026 Major League Soccer campaign after netting his first goal of the season to help CF Montreal secure a convincing 3–0 away triumph over New York Red Bulls on Sunday night.

The match, played at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, saw the visitors seize control early thanks to the Ghana international.

Montreal were handed a golden opportunity just eight minutes into the contest when the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Owusu showed composure under pressure, sending the goalkeeper the wrong direction before calmly rolling the ball into the net to hand his side the early breakthrough.

The strike marked the forward’s first goal of the new season after making three appearances, giving Montreal the ideal platform to dictate the tempo of the encounter.

Montreal continued to press forward and were rewarded again moments before halftime. Venezuelan midfielder Wikelman Carmona reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area and slotted home to double the visitors’ lead heading into the interval.

The Canadian outfit remained firmly in control after the restart and eventually put the result beyond doubt midway through the second half. Carmona returned to the scoresheet in the 68th minute, completing his brace with another tidy finish to cap an impressive attacking display.

Owusu remained a constant threat for Montreal’s frontline and contributed significantly to their offensive play before being withdrawn in the 61st minute. He was replaced by Mexican striker Daniel Rios.

The 29-year-old Ghanaian will now be eager to build momentum after opening his account, with Montreal aiming to sustain their positive early run in the 2026 MLS season.

For Owusu, the goal could prove an important confidence boost as he looks to establish himself as a key figure in Montreal’s attacking setup in the months ahead.
