Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has his eyes firmly set on guiding Ghana beyond the group stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking a bold step in the nation’s pursuit of global football glory.
Ghana sealed their ticket to next summer’s expanded World Cup with an emphatic qualifying campaign, topping their group with 25 points after a narrow yet decisive 1–0 win over the Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium.

For Addo, who oversaw the Black Stars’ group-stage exit at the 2022 edition in Qatar, this tournament represents both redemption and growth. The 49-year-old tactician believes Ghana now has the mentality, structure, and style to make a deeper impact.
“I want to overcome the group stage, but then, from there, it’s difficult to predict,” Addo told 3Sports. “It’s very, very important that we believe in ourselves, we keep the flexibility which we already have, and the players understand what we want to do”.
“This style of play for the long term will give us a lot of chances to go far in that World Cup,” he added.
Ghana’s finest World Cup moment remains their remarkable 2010 campaign in South Africa, where they reached the quarterfinals and came within a whisker of a historic semifinal berth.
