Ghana head coach Otto Addo has heaped praise on Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo after his standout debut performance in the Black Stars’ 1-0 victory over Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The 27-year-old, who was a late call-up to the squad, formed a solid midfield partnership with Thomas Partey, playing a pivotal role in Ghana’s crucial away win. Sibo was drafted in following the suspension of Elisha Owusu and an injury to Ibrahim Sulemana, yet he slotted seamlessly into the team setup.
“First of all, big congrats to him. I think, he really did well,” Addo said to the press after the game. “It is not easy to come from a certain environment to fit in the squad, but he knows a lot of players in the team, and he connected very well.
“He is very confident, and I think he did extremely well when you see this is his first performance. He is a warrior. Throughout you could see, and I think for the future things well even get better, but like for all players his performance for the club will decide for his next call up. The next window is pretty close, and I am sure he will be in the squad,” he added.

Sibo’s debut came on the back of a strong club season, where he helped Oviedo secure promotion to Spain’s La Liga. His composed display against Mali has now positioned him as a player to watch ahead of Ghana’s next international window.
