Former Liverpool and Manchester United forward Michael Owen believes Antoine Semenyo’s name will soon be back on the radar of Europe’s elite clubs following his eye-catching display against Liverpool on the Premier League’s opening weekend.

The Ghanaian international hit a brilliant brace in AFC Bournemouth’s 4-2 defeat at Anfield, underlining his growing reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.

Owen, speaking on punditry duty on Premier League Production after the match, was full of praise for the 25-year-old attacker.

“Honestly, I feel for Bournemouth,” Owen admitted. “This is a club that’s already seen some of its best players leave. But in Semenyo, they’ve managed to hold onto one of the absolute gems.”

“He’s powerful, he’s quick, he can finish, you can’t keep a player like that under the radar for long. Top clubs will definitely come back knocking.”

Semenyo had been strongly linked with several Premier League giants earlier this summer before opting to sign a long-term deal with the Cherries. His performance at Anfield may well have reignited that interest.

However, the game was marred by an ugly incident in the first half when Semenyo was subjected to racial abuse, prompting a brief halt in play. Merseyside Police later confirmed the arrest of a 47-year-old man in connection with the incident.

The Premier League, FIFA, the Ghana Football Association, and several player unions swiftly condemned the abuse. “There is no place for racism in football, or anywhere in society,” read a joint statement.

Despite the setback, Semenyo’s focus remains firmly on football. He will look to continue his blistering start to the season when Bournemouth welcome Wolves to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday, August 23.
