Former Herbert Mensah has shared a measured perspective on the appointment of Carlos Queiroz as head coach of Ghana’s national team, striking a balance between admiration for the veteran tactician and concern over his World Cup track record.
In an interview with Luv FM, Mensah acknowledged that while Queiroz brings a wealth of experience from the international stage, having previously led teams like Portugal and Iran at the FIFA World Cup, his performances at the tournament itself have not been particularly remarkable.

Still, Mensah was quick to emphasize that this should not overshadow the coach’s broader achievements in football.
“He does not have a great record at the World Cup, but that does not mean he’s not a very accomplished coach,” Mensah stated.
With Ghana set to begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, Queiroz faces a tight window to shape his squad and instill his philosophy. The Portuguese manager has just 46 days to prepare, with a June 1 deadline looming for the submission of his final 26-man roster.
Mensah suggested that Queiroz’s deep understanding of tournament football could yet prove valuable, particularly in navigating the pressures and nuances of such a high-stakes competition. However, he also hinted at underlying concerns regarding the team’s preparedness and cohesion heading into the global showpiece.
