Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi has embarked on a new chapter in his career, finalizing a long-term move to Major League Soccer outfit Nashville SC after an impressive stint in Norway with Fredrikstad FK.
Woledzi arrives on a deal running through 2028, with an additional option for 2029, and will slot into one of Nashville’s international roster positions once his International Transfer Certificate and P-1 Visa are processed.
Nashville’s President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Mike Jacobs couldn’t hide his excitement about the acquisition, praising the 23-year-old’s qualities and leadership. Jacobs described him as a “tremendous player and leader” whose presence will bolster the squad ahead of the 2026 season.
The move comes after a stellar run in the Norwegian top flight, where Woledzi evolved into one of Fredrikstad’s most reliable performers. Since joining the club in 2023, he racked up 88 appearances across league and cup competitions, as well as European qualifiers, including memorable Conference League outings against Crystal Palace.

His influence was most evident during the 2024 Eliteserien campaign, where he played 29 league matches, helped Fredrikstad lift the Norwegian Cup, and earned a well-deserved place in the Team of the Year. His consistency carried into 2025, culminating in him being voted Fredrikstad’s Player of the Year.
Woledzi’s European journey began in Denmark with FC Nordsjaelland, where he climbed through the academy ranks to make 33 senior appearances. He later spent part of the 2022–23 season in Portugal, featuring for Vitória Guimarães SC B, further honing his defensive craft.
Off the pitch, the former Right to Dream Academy graduate has remained deeply connected to his roots. In 2018, he launched both the Maxwell Woledzi Foundation and The Hijab Project in Nima, initiatives dedicated to expanding sports opportunities for young people, particularly girls who face barriers to participating in football.
With his blend of athleticism, experience, and community-driven spirit, Woledzi now looks set to leave his mark in MLS as Nashville SC strengthens its back line for the seasons ahead.
