Love with accountability: Charles Taylor backs Dramani but demands standards

Ghana Premier League legend Charles Taylor has delivered a passionate yet measured endorsement of Didi Dramani after Hearts of Oak’s hard-fought triumph over arch-rivals Asante Kotoko in Kumasi.

The Phobians etched their name into the headlines with a gritty 1-0 win at the Baba Yara Stadium, a result made even more impressive by the fact that they played a significant portion of the contest with ten men. It was a display built on discipline, tactical clarity and collective resolve.

Taylor, speaking on Angel TV, did not hide his admiration for the manner in which Dramani marshalled his side under intense pressure. However, the former attacker stressed that admiration should never silence constructive criticism.

“I love Didi Dramani, but I will criticize him if he makes mistakes. On Sunday, he showed that he is a good coach, the way his team controlled the game even while a man down. He should be given the chance to work, and I believe he can be the next Attuquayefio,” Taylor said.

For Taylor, Sunday’s victory was more than three points, it was a statement of tactical authority. Hearts’ ability to dictate tempo, remain compact, and frustrate Kotoko despite their numerical disadvantage highlighted a growing tactical identity under Dramani.

Still, the Hearts great was clear: support must come with standards. Backing a coach, he implied, does not mean shielding him from scrutiny when performances dip or decisions falter.

By invoking the name of Jones Attuquayefio, Taylor set a lofty benchmark. Attuquayefio remains one of the most revered figures in the club’s history, steering Hearts to multiple domestic crowns and continental glory at the turn of the millennium. To suggest Dramani could follow that path is both a compliment and a challenge.

For now, though, the focus is on momentum. Victory in Kumasi has reignited belief among the Phobian faithful, and if Dramani continues to combine tactical intelligence with resilience, the comparisons may grow louder.
