Ghana defender Tariq Lamptey endured an unusual and slightly embarrassing moment on Thursday evening after almost being locked out of Fiorentina’s own stadium ahead of their Europa Conference League encounter with Dynamo Kyiv.
According to Viola News, the 24-year-old full-back, who only arrived in Florence earlier this season, was stopped at the gates of the Stadio Artemio Franchi after stewards failed to recognize him as a member of the Fiorentina squad. Despite being a registered first-team player, Lamptey reportedly struggled to convince security officials of his identity.
Sidelined by a ligament injury, the Black Stars international was not part of the Matchday squad and had planned to watch the contest from the stands while supporting his teammates.
However, entry proved unexpectedly difficult until a Fiorentina supporter stepped in, recognized the player, and personally introduced him to stadium staff, finally clearing the way for Lamptey to enter.
On the pitch, Fiorentina delivered a confident display, edging Dynamo Kyiv 2–1 in a high-pressure European fixture. The victory leaves the Viola sitting 11th in the Conference League standings with nine points after five matches in the league phase.

Lamptey’s time in Italy has so far been disrupted by misfortune. Signed from Brighton & Hove Albion in September for €6 million, the former Chelsea youth product has struggled to find rhythm after suffering a cruciate ligament injury shortly after his arrival.
Before being sidelined, the Ghanaian managed just two appearances in Fiorentina colours. He is still working his way back to full fitness, hoping to put both injury woes and awkward off-field moments behind him as he looks to establish himself in Florence.
