Former Black Stars head coach James Kwesi Appiah has thrown his full weight behind Ghana’s chances of making a strong impact at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, expressing belief that the team has what it takes to go beyond the group stage and compete at a high level.

In an interview with Akoma FM, the experienced Ghanaian tactician, who currently serves as head coach of Sudan’s national team, struck an optimistic tone while assessing Ghana’s prospects on the world’s biggest football stage. Appiah stressed that the Black Stars should approach the tournament with confidence, discipline, and belief in their own quality.

“All the teams in the group are beatable, and a team in the World Cup can’t be underrated. We pray that our players don’t sustain any injuries before or during the stages. Nothing is impossible, and we can go far,” James Kwesi Appiah told Akoma FM in an interview.

Ghana have been drawn into Group L for the expanded 2026 tournament, where they will square off against European heavyweights England and Croatia, alongside CONCACAF representatives Panama. While the group presents a significant challenge, Appiah believes it is far from insurmountable if the Black Stars prepare thoroughly and maintain the right mindset.

According to the former coach, success at the World Cup will hinge largely on planning and mental strength rather than reputation alone. He emphasized that Ghana must approach every fixture with ambition, insisting that the team should not settle for merely participating, but instead aim to win each match they play.

With qualification already secured, Appiah’s comments serve as both encouragement and a reminder that careful preparation, squad fitness, and belief will be crucial if the Black Stars are to translate potential into performance on the global stage in 2026.
