Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has heaped praise on the Black Stars following their hard-fought triumph over Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

The national team bounced back from a frustrating 1-1 stalemate with Chad to secure a crucial 1-0 victory over the Eagles of Mali on Monday night at the Accra Sports Stadium. The decisive moment came in the 49th minute, when defender Alexander Djiku rose highest to head home the game’s only goal, a strike that tightened Ghana’s grip at the top of Group I.

Speaking to the media after the match, Adams commended the team for their resilience and underlined the significance of the result.

“It was a good game, we won. What we wanted were the three solid points, and we got the points that we needed,” said the Member of Parliament for Buem constituency.

He went on to highlight the importance of the victory, especially against one of the toughest opponents in the group.

“We are really ready. We talked about qualifying for the World Cup. We didn’t win against Chad, but the boys played all out, and we have now beaten Mali, which is the strongest side in this group. The rest, we are going to deal with them also,” he added.

The Black Stars’ latest win takes their tally to 19 points after eight matches, leaving them firmly in control of their qualifying destiny.

Ghana now shifts its focus to the final two fixtures of the group stage, where they will face the Central African Republic and Comoros in October, with their sights firmly set on booking a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
