Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito believes the Porcupine Warriors have become the team every Ghana Premier League side is desperate to bring down, a reality he admits has piled extra pressure on his squad.
Kotoko’s impressive ten-match unbeaten run came to a halt in Ampain after a 2-1 defeat to Basake Holy Stars, a result that not only stunned their supporters but also halted their climb toward the top of the table. The loss keeps Kotoko three points behind leaders Aduana FC, who sit on 20 points, and temporarily disrupts the momentum they had been building.
Speaking after the setback, Zito maintained that the defeat was not a true representation of Kotoko’s level this season.
“The way for every club, we all want to win the league. It’s not only Kotoko. Even the way you play here, if that’s how you play every club, then you wouldn’t be last,” he said, suggesting that opponents often raise their game when facing his side.

He further emphasised the pressure that comes with being Kotoko:
“Everybody wants to beat Kotoko. That is the nature of the issue. But we didn’t play badly. We played good football and created chances. Putting the ball into the net was, once again, the problem. But so far, so good. We are playing the league.”
Kotoko now turn their attention to a pivotal home fixture against Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday. The Yellow and Mauve sit third with 22 points and are pushing to stay within reach of the summit. Meanwhile, Basake Holy Stars remain mired in 17th place with nine points, reminding Kotoko of the unpredictability and intensity of the campaign ahead.
