FC Bocholt have moved decisively to strengthen their frontline, completing the signing of Ghana-eligible forward Charles-Jesaja Herrmann on a one-and-a-half-year contract.
The Regionalliga West side confirmed the capture of the 25-year-old striker, who arrives at the Stadion am Hünting as a free agent following his departure from Luxembourg topflight outfit Racing FC Union Luxembourg earlier this month.
Herrmann returns to German football with a reputation already forged in respected youth academies. He previously featured for VfL Wolfsburg’s U-17s and Hannover 96 at youth level, experiences that helped shape a forward known for his physical edge, intelligent movement and eye for goal.
In an official club statement announcing the deal, Bocholt outlined their expectations of the new recruit:
“1. FC Bocholt have signed German striker Jesaja Herrmann. The 25-year-old forward signed a contract at Bocholt’s Hünting stadium on Friday and is expected to bolster the team’s attack.”
The move follows a productive spell in Luxembourg, where Herrmann enjoyed one of the most efficient campaigns of his career. In just 12 appearances during the ongoing 2025–26 season, he struck eight goals and supplied two assists, form that clearly caught the attention of Bocholt’s recruitment team.

Herrmann himself made no secret of his enthusiasm for the switch, stressing that the project sold to him by the club hierarchy played a major role in his decision:
“I made this decision consciously. The discussions with those in charge were convincing. I’m looking forward to the project at 1. FC Bocholt and will do everything I can to achieve the club’s goals.”
From Bocholt’s perspective, this was not a speculative addition but a calculated strike in the transfer market. Sporting director Christopher Schorch underlined just how highly the club rate their new number nine:
“With the signing of Jesaja Herrmann, we have secured our absolute top target for the striker position. He combines physical presence and robustness with excellent playing ability. Jesaja has consistently demonstrated his goal-scoring prowess at his previous clubs.”
Beyond club football, Herrmann’s profile carries added intrigue on the international stage. He is the son of former Ghana international midfielder Charles Kwablan Akonnor, a well-known figure in African football circles.
Although Herrmann has previously represented Germany at youth international level, he remains eligible to don the colours of Ghana, leaving the door open for a future senior international decision.
For FC Bocholt, the immediate focus is clear: goals, momentum and a stronger push in the Regionalliga West. With Herrmann’s recent scoring record and pedigree, the Hünting faithful will be hoping they have found the cutting edge their campaign demands.
