Ghanaian centre-back Michael Akoto has completed a move to Iceland’s powerhouse club KR Reykjavík, signing a two-year contract that will keep him at the club until the 2027 season.
The 27-year-old, who parted ways with Danish side AGF in July, was officially unveiled by KR in a spirited announcement.
“Michael Akoto in KR! Michael Akoto (1997) has signed a contract with the club until the season 2027! Michael Akoto is a defender who was last at AGF in the Danish first division. We are looking forward to seeing him on the pitch and welcome him to KR!”
Akoto has wasted no time settling in, immediately linking up with his new teammates. He could make his debut as early as Monday when KR face Fram, with the Icelandic top-flight returning after a month-long pause.
Born in Accra, Akoto moved to Germany at a young age, beginning his professional journey with SV Wehen Wiesbaden. His career has since included spells at Mainz 05 II, Dynamo Dresden, and most recently AGF in Denmark.
While he holds German citizenship, Akoto remains eligible to represent Ghana’s Black Stars, a prospect that may become increasingly appealing if his form in Reykjavík catches the eye of national selectors.
