Leicester City’s Friday night triumph over Birmingham City brought both elation and anxiety in equal measure, as Abdul Fatawu Issahaku produced a stunning performance only to limp off in the dying minutes.
The Ghanaian winger, still just 21 but already a vital cog in Steve Cooper’s Championship promotion machine, lit up the King Power Stadium with a blistering opener inside eight minutes, latching onto a perfectly weighted ball from Louis Page before dispatching a cool finish past the helpless goalkeeper.
His relentless pace, flair, and creativity terrorised Birmingham’s defence throughout the contest, earning him the Player of the Match accolade and thunderous applause from the home faithful.
Yet jubilation quickly gave way to concern. With just three minutes of normal time remaining, Issahaku dropped to the turf clutching his leg, forcing Leicester into an unplanned substitution as Wout Faes came on in his place. The winger gingerly made his way off the pitch, leaving a nervous hush in the stands.
It’s a troubling sight for Leicester fans, who see Issahaku as central to their promotion ambitions, and for Ghana supporters, who have watched the youngster’s promising career interrupted by injuries before. Having endured a frustrating spell on the sidelines last season, the prospect of another setback looms ominously, especially with key international fixtures on the horizon.
