Ghana coach Otto Addo is set to hand a recall to midfielder Elisha Owusu ahead of next month’s decisive World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali, as per GHANAsoccernet.
The AJ Auxerre player, who has been sidelined from recent Black Stars duty, returns at a crucial point as Ghana push to seal a place at the 2026 tournament. Owusu last featured in late 2024, missing March’s qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, as well as the Unity Cup friendlies earlier this year.
Now fit and in rhythm, the 26-year-old has re-established himself as one of Auxerre’s key figures in Ligue 1, starting the opening two games of the new season and dictating play from the base of midfield. His return adds depth to a Ghana side that has often leaned on youth to cover his absence.

Calm under pressure and precise in distribution, Owusu’s profile complements the qualities of Thomas Partey, Mohammed Kudus, and Salis Abdul Samed. His ability to break up play and organize from deep is seen as the missing link in Addo’s midfield.
Ghana sit in pole position in Group I and could book their ticket to North America with wins over Chad away and Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium. In matches where balance and control will be essential, Owusu’s experience is expected to steady the Black Stars’ engine room.
