Ghana Football Association assistant coach Desmond Ofei will take temporary charge of the Ghana national football team when they face Mexico national football team in an international friendly on Friday in Puebla.
The development was confirmed in an official statement released by the GFA, which revealed that head coach Carlos Queiroz will miss the match because of personal commitments.

Having supervised training sessions and preparations since the squad touched down in Mexico, Ofei is now set to oversee the team from the touchline in what is expected to be a key test ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“Assistant Coach Desmond Ofei will lead the Black Stars in Friday’s international friendly against Mexico in Puebla, following the absence of Head Coach Carlos Queiroz due to personal reasons. Ofei, who has supervised the team’s preparations since arrival in Mexico, will be assisted by goalkeepers’ trainer Daniel Gaspar and set-piece coach/video analyst Gregory De Grauwe,” a publication on the GFA website said on Friday morning.
The encounter against Mexico forms part of Ghana’s final phase of preparations before the World Cup tournament begins next month.
The Black Stars have been handed a difficult assignment at the global showpiece after being drawn alongside Panama, England and Croatia in the group stage.

Friday’s match is also expected to provide the technical bench with an opportunity to assess players before confirming the final 26-man squad for the tournament, which kicks off on June 11.
