After months of anticipation, Union Berlin defender Derrick Kohn is finally set to don the Black Stars jersey for the first time following his official clearance from FIFA to represent Ghana.
The German-born left-back, 25, has successfully completed his nationality switch, bringing an end to a lengthy administrative process that had previously kept him from making his international bow.
Kohn, who has been a consistent performer in the Bundesliga, was on Otto Addo’s radar during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but had to wait on the sidelines as paperwork delayed his eligibility. Now, with all formalities settled, he joins the Ghana squad ahead of the Kirin Challenge Cup in Japan.
His club, Union Berlin, confirmed his invitation for Ghana’s upcoming friendlies against Japan and South Korea, fixtures that serve as vital tests for the team as they build toward next year’s major competitions in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Kohn’s arrival adds depth and dynamism to the Black Stars’ left flank, an area that has seen intense competition in recent months. His debut could come as early as Friday, November 14, when Ghana faces host nation Japan, before another clash with South Korea four days later.
