Yusif Chibsah, Head of Player Relations at the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), believes Asante Kotoko have both the motivation and the quality to overcome Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Athletic Club when the two sides meet this weekend.

The Porcupine Warriors will welcome Wydad to the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, October 19, for the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round clash, a fixture Chibsah views as more than just a football match.

The former Kotoko midfielder, recalling the painful memories of the 2002 CAF final loss to the Moroccans, described the encounter as a golden opportunity for the Ghanaian side to right a historical wrong.

“It’s going to be a difficult game, but for Asante Kotoko, it’s a revenge. They snatched a trophy from Kotoko in 2002. Kotoko has never lost to them in 90 minutes of football, but I believe it is not trying Kotoko. Kotoko has beaten WAC before, it’s beyond this team,” he noted.

Chibsah expressed confidence that Kotoko can rise above Wydad’s stature and organization, insisting that with the right mentality and tactical discipline, victory is within reach.

“I strongly believe WAC is beatable, and Asante Kotoko must be able to do that. The North African clubs have a way of doing their football. They invest, and they have qualified, but I believe Kotoko can win,” he emphasized.

Kick-off for the highly anticipated fixture is set for 15:00 GMT at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Kotoko will look to make a statement against one of Africa’s most formidable clubs.
